Jazzy 88.9 WCSU Salutes Black History Month - C.J. McLin

February is Black History Month and Jazzy 88.9 WCSU is paying tribute to the many African-Americans who have made a difference in the Miami Valley. Today we salute the Honorable C.J. McLin.

C.J. McLin was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from the 36th District for an unprecedented 12 terms. That ranked him as the longest serving legislator in Ohio history before his death in 1988. When he was a teenager, C.J McLin filed a civil lawsuit against the dime store McCrory's on Fourth & Main Streets in downtown Dayton for refusing to serve him because he was black. He was an advocate for the equal treatment of African-American service members. McLin also helped fund the Paul Laurence Dunbar house and National Afro-American Museum. He was very instrumental in bringing awareness and provoking change during the 1966 riots. C.J. McLin is honored in the Ohio Civil Rights Hall of Fame.

This Black History tribute is brought to you by your Miami Valley Jazz Authority, Jazzy 88.9 WCSU.
