February is Black History Month and Jazzy 88.9 WCSU is paying tribute to the many African-Americans who have made a difference in the Miami Valley. Today we salute Davey Moore, Featherweight World Boxing Champion.
The Springfield, Ohio native successfully defended his boxing title five times including an 18 bout winning streak. On September 21, 2013, the 50th anniversary of Moore's last fight, his hometown of Springfield, Ohio dedicated an eight foot statue in his honor that is located in the public green space just south of downtown near the neighborhood where he grew up.
