Jazzy 88.9 WCSU Salutes Black History Month - David D. Albritton

February is Black History Month and Jazzy 88.9 WCSU is paying tribute to the many African-Americans who have made a difference in the Miami Valley. Today we salute David Donald Albritton.

The Danville, Alabama native had a long career that spanned three decades and numerous titles. As a sophomore at Ohio State, he participated in the 1936 Olympics with Jesse Owens and claimed the Silver medal at the Berlin Games. David Albritton later became a high school teacher and coach at Dunbar High School, in Dayton, Ohio where as coach he led his teams to three state titles  He also served in the Ohio House of Representatives in Dayton, Ohio where he took over the Interstate Cooperation Committee and became the first African-American to chair a House committee. He proved to be a popular representative, completing six terms in the General Assembly.  In 1980, he was inducted into the USA Track & Field Hall of Fame.
