Jazzy 88.9 WCSU Salutes Black History Month - Colonel Charles Young

February is Black History Month and Jazzy 88.9 WCSU is paying tribute the many African-Americans who have a made a difference in the Miami Valley. Today we salute Colonel Charles Young.

He graduated from the U.S military academy at West Point that gave him the honor of being the third African American to do so, in spite of the hatred, bigotry and discrimination Colonel Charles Young encountered as an undergraduate. His first assignment after graduation was with the Buffalo Soldiers in the 10th Calvary in Nebraska and would continue to do so throughout his military career. He would also serve as Professor of Military Sciences at Wilberforce University. Colonel Charles Young was the highest ranking African-American Officer in the army when World War I started. Today, Colonel Charles Young's home in Wilberforce, a way station for the Underground Railroad, is the site of the National Museum Of African-American history. This tribute is brought to your Miami Valley Jazz authority, Jazzy 88.9 WCSU
