Album Review

Saxophonist George Howard enjoyed considerable success throughout the 1980's with his laid back, light funk melodies that charmed many music directors on smooth jazz playlists.

"Attitude Adjustment," one of his final solo efforts received a huge jolt of energy with a new found jazz/funk combo thanks to the magical work of late keyboardist/producer George Duke. Duke cleverly jettisoned Howard's predictable drum rhythms, replacing it with energetic session drummer Sonny Emory. "Watch Your Back," a slick mid-tempo gem with Larry Kimpel's bouncy bass line flowed nicely with Howard's improv delivery. "Let's Unwind," a soulful groove featuring Jonathan Butler' scat-singing riffs matched up with Howard's soothing but electric composition.

"Attitude Adjustment" turned out to be George Howard's most creative & enjoyable album that was exclusively targeted for diehard contemporary jazz fans who may have felt somewhat left out in the cold on his previous eleven album releases.
