Vocalist supreme Toni Redd, who hails from Atlanta, Georgia, has drawn comparisons to the late silky soul/jazz singer Phyllis Hyman. Teaming up with multi-instrumentalist/producer Bob Baldwin was brilliant and a can't miss project adding such an electric voice to pair with his unique, creative compositions.
Midtempo gem "The Love Is Gone," co-written with Baldwin is a beautiful piece that flashes Toni Redd's vocal range delivered so smoothly topped off with the jazzy sax solo of Kelly O'Neal. "I'm Changing," showcases Redd's scat-singing prowess near the song's end capturing some of Phyllis Hyman's most memorable moments from back in the day. The Christopher Cross tune "Sailing" didn't disappoint and while the vocals were authentic, soulful & sassy, it was Bob Baldwin providing the genre's punchline with a heart-felt augmented piano solo. "N" The Key Of Redd" is the perfect contemporary jazz album that is loaded with innovation, style and improvisation worthy of considerable airplay for program directors looking to jumpstart its vague music rotation.
