“I’m Back” is the 22nd studio album for Walter Beasley, including his first studio project in over 5 years. The El Centro, California native didn't disappoint his many fans as he gives a nice blend of contemporary jazz instrumentals and catchy vocal hooks.
"Hard Work", an old John Handy tune that gets a complete alteration with Beasley's improv on soprano saxophone paired up against effective guitar riffs. " the title cut "I'm Back" is an energetic tune that is reminiscent of the bouncy "On The Edge" from his debut self-titled album from the late 1980's. "Music" brings a Marvin Gaye-Teddy Pendergrass flavor as Beasley flashes a unique skill set as prolific vocalist and tops off this mid-term groove with a soothing sax solo in between.
"I'm Back" could go down as one of his best albums to date and what's more impressive is his willingness and fortitude to juggle a vigorous and demanding schedule as Professor of the Berklee College of Music and taking on an unlimited amount of concert dates along the way.
