"Power Of 3" is the third album for the trio Jeff Kashiwa, Steve Cole and Kim Waters and although their was a 6-year respite between this album and "The Pack Is Back" not much has changed from a creative standpoint as it hasn't augmented away from its smooth jazz moniker.
With the exception of "Like Old Times" featuring Hammond B-Organist Rickey Peterson and the up tempo "What's The Time" this album lacks overall imagination and composition. The three Sax men were better served to utilize the talents of Peterson better who gave them some Charles Earland-like moments on the Organ. Being a Contemporary jazz junkie I have grown to appreciate the artistry, the presentation and improvisation from every musician that keeps my feet tapping and with that being said "Power Of 3" is strictly for smooth jazz purists.
